Self-Reflection Week 1
Written on 9.18.2025
- What challenges and strategies are most important for you to work on in the next few weeks?
- How has exploring your challenges, asking questions and learning new strategies shaped the kind of student you want to be?
- After learning about the differences of university life and effective study habits what expectations do you think EMI universities have for students of Engineering like yourself?
This is my first week in university, everything is new and interesting to me. For me, I think one of the biggest challenges lies in Math 231, calculus. Not only is the knowledge quite new for me, but also the academic vocabulary is also an obstacle for me to get over. So, to overcome this challenge, I plan to preview the knowledge in advance to make sure that I understand the teacher and the lesson better in class. Also, to solve the problem of the distraction in the new full English environment, I plan to sleep a little bit earlier to be energetic to listen attentively to professors.
Before university, I had planned to be a student who is active and willing to grab opportunities and take challenges. So far, I have acted actively in the election of class leaders and successfully elected as one of the class leaders. For asking questions, though I haven’t asked questions related to studies yet, but asking several questions about my future studies, the homework requirements really help me have a clearer view of my studies and future, which may in turn helps me become an active student. For week one, I haven’t learned or applied any new strategies, but I think I will keep learning and adjusting myself.
From my point of view, EMI universities can help me learn and develop in a full English environment, so that I can exchange my ideas and share my discoveries in engineering field with people from all over the world easier, given that English is a global language. Also, I expect that an EMI university can offer me more opportunities to study and collaborate in engineering programs globally.
